The International Writers Magazine
: Confessions of a school girl

Unadvisable Behaviour
Michelle Cochrane

"Michelle can I see you for a moment please?"

I was in the "sad" group in school. But I loved them. They were some of the best mates that I had had. One day changed my life though. There was a girl in school. A teeny weeny twig of a thing called Kim.
No, she wasn’t one of the ones that tried to tackle me after school but she was one of the ones that continuously mocked me every day about my weight. It was no laughing matter, in fact it probably got to me more than the attempts of a beating that came from her more daring friends. I had had about six months of these continuous jibes when one day, while doing circuits in PE, she made one of the biggest mistakes of her life. SHE PUSHED ME TOO FAR. Yes I lost all control of my senses.

All I remember is running as fast as I could towards her with such speed that she didn’t stand a chance. Not a chance! I knocked her clean against the wall and I swear the I could hear the squeaking that you often hear in cartoons as a character dribbles slowly down a hard surface after a well deserved hiding.

That wasn’t the worst of her problems though. Oh no!! I didn’t quite realise how much damage that I had done to the annorexic stick until I heard the sound of sirens while getting changed in the locker rooms; trying to avoid the stares of amazement coming from not only my friends but hers as well.

I was scared and I mean really scared. What I had done? I had lost complete control and had no idea what was going to happen now. Visions of being put behind large metal bars kept pulsing through my head as I heard a voice from the corner of the room.
"Michelle can I see you for a moment please?"

It was the teacher and I knew that I was in for it now. The room seemed black, almost eerie as I stepped into the office. She asked me what had happened. And yes I was a coward…I lied through my teeth…but then again who wouldn’t? I simply told her that I had been running too fast in the circuits and she had stepped into the way and I had run into her. Not bad I think for a spur of the moment story!

She looked at me skeptically then and just said that as it was an accident she would let it slide. I couldn’t believe my luck but I was still ashamed of what I had done. What was I thinking? However, as I stood up to go, she simply said to me "and between you and me Michelle….she had it coming!"
I will never forget that moment.
