As you all know, I officially resigned as Associate Editor of the Aquarian Weekly this summer and thus my Profonde Musique column that I began earlier this year in the wake of my December 2024 retirement of Reality Check after 27 years was shuttered. This one hit hard for me, as my idea with Profonde Musique was to veer away from the mundane horrors of socio-political subjects in these dark times and concentrate instead on the uplifting and infinitely compelling aspects of music writing, as I have done for over ten years now with my books, Shout It Out Loud, Accidentally Like a Martyr, Take a Sad Song, and this year with Revolution. (See links below) I have also recently contributed to a compendium of Beatles songs for a book to be released next year and am currently working on several new projects that I hope will be published in the next couple of years.
But I do miss the weekly back-and-forth of communication with my readers, the itch to keep that muscle worked out, breakdown divergent subjects and receive immediate feedback, interacting with an audience. And so, with this in mind, I have created, as promised earlier this year, a new Patreon Page called James Campion's Profonde Musique in which I will share not only my music writing, but unreleased work from my archives, including audio tapes and video productions of interviews with rock stars, artists, and authors, and unreleased discussions from the Underwater Sunshine podcast with my pal, Adam Duritz, previous interviews I’ve done for my books and published and unpublished features on music artists we all know and love, and finally, a brand new podcast series based on my recently updated 300 Favorite Albums list.
The podcast is exciting for me, because each one will have a different co-host or guest wherein we’ll chat about a specific album from my list that they’ve chosen and we’ll have a blast deconstructing and celebrating. This includes fellow authors and music journalists, podcasters, musicians, singer-songwriters, influencers, many of the artists whose albums I have chosen, and even old friends, colleagues, and family members. Some famous, some not. Some may be complete music geeks, like me, and others will merely talk about what these records mean to them. It will simply be called 300 Favorite Albums, and I cannot wait to start recording them.
James Campion’s Profonde Musique will feature content twice a week – every Tuesday and Thursday – and I will, as mentioned above, endeavor to include new and old content, some archived, others unheard and unseen by anyone culled from my personal collection. I also hope the page to be immersive, growing and evolving as I see how this all works and works with you guys, not at you guys. As we move along, please send requests and make suggestions. I might even ask some of you to contribute. Who knows? It’s in the exciting, planning and dreaming phase right now.
But that phase morphs into reality this coming week.
And so, starting this Tuesday, we’ll begin with my annual Holiday Edition of Rock Reads, where, as many of you know, I review and suggest new music books for the music fans on your holiday list, or maybe a title you’ll ask for this season. Soon after, later this month, I’ll be releasing the complete Underwater Prince book event from a couple of weeks ago at the Underwater Sunshine Fest, a lively discussion with myself, Rob Sheffield from Rolling Stone, and my friend and former podcast partner, Adam Duritz of Counting Crows, as well as a stellar performance of "Purple Rain" by the brilliant Fantastic Cat.
From then on, you’ll get music-related content from me and those around me that make my life and work so exciting and fulfilling.
I would also ask, only if you can or if you wish, to donate a $2.00 a month subscription to the page. But it is NOT mandatory to enjoy my content. Nope. Because I aim to continue to promote musicians and bands and films and other forms of art through my writing, it would be unfair and antithetical to this wish to have this content appear before a pay firewall. I will say, for those who do follow me and sign up – and signing up is free – it just means you’ll get access to all this through your email like this mailing list. But, again, to help defray the cost of travel, bringing in content – including song clips from copywritten material – paying for graphic artists and the like, and my daily efforts, I ask, if you can, to contribute a small donation of two bucks to the page.
If you visit this link, there is a Join For Free button on the top right. If you want to contribute, click the button in the middle, and follow the instructions – it is easy, and you can back out any time you’d like.

I thank you for your support and readership, and for some of you, friendships and kinships all these years. James Campion's Profonde Musique is my next adventure that could not exist without my incredible team, my assistant Jessica Smale, who will run the page, Robert Tatis, who will, as always, be my visual partner, and John “Doc” Slater, who handles the technical end.
Here’s hoping you guys will join us on this journey.
