Covid has reached 103,701,324 cases worldwide and 2,233,042 deaths. Source: Worldometers. Jan 30th 2021
Covid USA: 26,682,193 infected with 450,459 deaths

Stay Safe - Wear a Mask - Stay Alive -

106,000 Covid deaths in the UK so far. It's not the kind of milestone we can be proud of. But 9 million + vaccinated so far and that is progress. In addition a new vaccine by Novavax has passed Trial 3 milestone. I'm getting a 1st dose vaccine today. Never thought I'd ever look forward to one, but I am.

President Joe Biden was sworn in as the 46th President of the USA. No incidents were recorded and an extraordinary poet is launched on the world in the shape of Amanda Gorman. We wish Joe all the luck in the world and he's going to need it. Good luck to Kamala Harris too. She will bring a good balance to the leadership of America and hope to millions. He called for unity but I suspect this will be a long time in coming.

Trump left like the mean sprited loser he's always been. How spectacularly good was President Trump at losing? He lost the election, he lost the Senate, he lost Congress and managed to lose the steal and get himself impeached twice. No one will ever be as good as Trump at losing ever again. Give the guy a medal, preferably a Russian one. See James Campion's latest verdict on Trump here.

Five dead and many arrrested in Trump's Coup attempt. Trump encouraged them to take back Congress, storm the citidel and impose their will on members of the House and Senate. He claimed fraud and that he was the rightful King, it was right out of the Dictator's handbook. 'March and I will be with you' he said and of course he wasn't. He let them storm Congress, smash windows, get into the chamber and yes it failed. Of course it failed. Trump has failed upwards all his life. He failed to win the election legally and now the goodwill of the world, if there was any left at all. Instead of Florida we should let him retire to a Dacha near Moscow so he can be near his dear friend Putin and live like so many other exiles from failed coups that Russia hosts.

Conspiracy theories abound. Where were the cops? Why did they let them into the Capitol Building? Why didn't the City officials prepare given that Trump gave them full notice. 'January 6th will be wild' he said. The Pround Boys were listening, why weren't the Army or the Police or was this the plan all along? Turn a blind eye and Trump will be magically re-elected was their thinking. Trump's now been banned on Twitter and Facebook but what took them so long? But don't expect him to go quietly... despite impeachment due to be introduced into the Senate on Feb 8th he will hang around the Republican party like a bad smell for years creating a malign influence.

Meanwhile in the real world Biden was made President, and reminds us that 'words matter. A president can inspire or incite.' Now we must heal and calm and let truth blossom.
But so many have died of Covid-19. 447,000 in America and 104,000 in the UK so far. Thousands of others are dying or sick worldwide.  Now it’s happening to working middle-aged people and younger.  Fathers, mothers, even teens are dying as the virus has mutated to more rapidly infect and overwhelm our hospitals. Hardly any of these people will have made a will.  Think of the chaos they leave behind, along with the grief and recriminations.  So, if you haven’t made a will. Do so now.  For the sake of those you leave behind.  Make January the month you get organized.

My first thoughts when I got the call from Contact & Trace was, well at least I got my new book ‘We Feel Your Pain’ published and then, god, I had better get my affairs in order.  The worst part for everyone who gets this call is that you are immediately isolated and no family member or friend can come to your rescue or tend to you when and if you start to show symptoms.

Stay safe - stay home - wear a mask if you go out to buy food.
