'Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow.’ Albert Einstein
2026 will be a different ballgame. It has started with a flash bang and is continuing at pace with many shocks and shifting world power blocs. For sure the moral highgound has shifted big time. I get the feeling that in Europe we're being left behind. Meanwhile good luck getting the world cup tickets you want or ICE letting you in!
We managed 26 years on-line but now we are just an active archive of all those posts dating back to late 1999 when the future looked bright. (I’m not actually sure the future looked bright but I’m guessing compared to now it might have been). Tabytha Towe just completed an epic journey in Argentina and Chile and has sent her copy in so we can catch up with her adventurous life. Tab has been documenting her life on Hackwriters since she was fifteen years old. Our longest contributor. *She's due to be in Alaska in March.
It seems no one wants to write balanced political articles now fearing retribution and trolls, can’t even post environmental pieces without being attacked and who can blame them. Everything has shifted to the extreme right and left. The middle is a lonely place it seems but we're sticking there.
So we’re taking off for a bit of winter sunshine and renewal with a vain hope that we will return in March and find glorious sunlit uplands thronging with happy grateful people. As C. S. Lewis remarked ‘You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.’
It’s entirely possible that we are being a tad optimistic here but hey ho, it’s the thought that counts, right?
We wish all of our readers past and present a happy healthy 2026 that brings many fortunate surprises that give you hope again. * I have just been given an earliest appointment to see my Cardio specialist - Jan 2027. At least they think I'll still be alive ...
We shall see what the Year of the Horse offers.
Cheers
* I'm just back from Miami so will pen some comments here

Remy has one last obsession – to complete the restoration of his ’57 Studebaker Golden Hawk. He’s planned a road trip to Montreal to find a part he desperately needs. It’s a long way from Florida; his Chevy truck is almost as old as he is. At the very first urgent stop in the pouring rain, a dog appears from nowhere and jumps into his truck, quickly followed by a drenched teen. Scared, the girl, Ami, urgently needs a ride. She has escaped from a nearby religious cult and is desperate to find the mother who abandoned her there when she was just five years old. One old man, a troubled teenage girl and Stan the dog are on a road trip into MAGA America. With each mile they travel Montreal seems to get further away.
'Fabulous, can't-put-down story with quirky, original characters, a loveable dog and a great adventure'. ***** Roxy West on Goodreads.
